How to apply for MEXT Research Scholarship in Japan 2024: For Masters and PhD without IELTS

MEXT Research Scholarship in Japan for Masters and Ph.D., with no IELTS requirement, is now open for applications. The following article provides information about the eligibility requirements, benefits, required documents, application process, and deadlines for the scholarship.

1.    MEXT Japan Scholarships – Post Graduate/Masters and PhD:

The MEXT Research Scholarship is offered to international students who wish to study in Japan and meet the following qualifications and conditions:

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must be nationals of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan, and those with dual nationality will need to renounce their Japanese nationality before receiving the scholarship.
• Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1989.
• Applicants must meet the academic qualifications and conditions for admission to a master’s or doctoral course at a Japanese graduate school in which they wish to enroll.
• Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese.
• Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering their studies in Japan.

2.    Benefits of MEXT Research Scholarship:

Successful applicants will receive the following benefits:

• An allowance of 143,000 yen per month for preparatory education and non-regular students; 144,000 yen per month for regular students enrolled in master’s or professional degree courses; and 145,000 yen per month for regular students enrolled in doctoral courses.
• Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be covered by MEXT.
• Transportation expenses to and from Japan will be provided by MEXT.

3.    Required Documents:

The following documents must be submitted before the deadline:

• Mark Sheet Form 
• Application Form (1 original)
• Research Plan
• Attested copies of degree and transcripts from the last universities attended.
• Certification of graduation or degree certificate from the university attended.
• Recommendation letter from the president/dean or academic advisor at the current or last university attended.
• Abstract of theses (if applicable)
• Recommendation letter from the present employer (if applicable)

Note:

• The submitted documents will not be returned.
• Applications should be unstapled (assemble only with a paper clip) and printed on A4 size paper.
• Certificates and documents other than those mentioned above will not be considered.
